So what should you do when you notice that aircon not working properly anymore? Before calling an air conditioner repair service, do these 5 checks:
1. Check the power
You’ve noticed that air con not working – but is it even turning on at all? If so, and it’s not a blackout, it could be as simple as a plug falling out of the wall, or another reason related to the source of power.
2. Check the switchboard
It could be that your air conditioner has its own breaker in your home’s main switchboard, which could explain why you’ve got power to everything else in your home and it’s just the air conditioning not working. If you see the breaker switch is tripped, flick it back on. Problem solved?
3. Check the remote
You’d be amazed how many homes we race to all across the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and beyond, only to discover that the reason for the AC not working is 100% user error. It’s always embarrassing for the customer, but sometimes that little ‘sunshine’ icon rather than the ‘snowflake’ icon is displayed on the remote – which would obviously explain that rather toasty house on a hot day! A little understanding about your air conditioner setting could really go a long way.
4. Check the air filter
Another extremely common explanation for an air conditioner not working is, again, extremely simple to resolve. In most cases, the homeowner can check and clean their systems’ own air filters, which if particularly dirty or clogged can result in reduced airflow and a range of other problems and risks to your expensive technology.
5. Check the outdoor unit
If it’s been a while since you inspected your AC’s outdoor condenser unit, give it a quick look because sometimes garden or litter debris or overgrown vegetation can block the vital release of the absorbed heat from the evaporator coil.
