As the bulk of long hot summer days are behind us and the days are starting to draw in, many of us are switching our lighting on earlier. Most people tend to rely on natural light to help during the day, but what if you live in an apartment? The truth is that when most people move to an apartment building for the first time they’re often shocked by the lack of any natural light usually caused by fewer windows. Because of this they often resort to switching their lighting on during daylight hours which can prove costly. Here’s some hints and tips on how to make the most of lighting so that you don’t end up spending a whole heap of cash.
When it comes to apartment living the kitchen and bathroom are usually the two rooms that severely lack any natural light. If this is the case then you might want to consider recessed lighting. Designed to give maximum lighting in enclosed spaces, if you opt for the LED variety they’re not only energy efficient, but long-lasting too. In fact studies suggest that a normal LED light has the ability to outlast a halogen bulb by as many as 20 times. That’s one heck of a saving on replacement lighting right!
If you have a small balcony or a ground floor terrace area then you might want to create the right ambience by rigging up some simple fairy lights. Alternatively some common or garden solar lighting will also do the trick. Both are incredibly cheap to run and they’re perfect for a romantic evening for two or for entertaining friends and family.
Generally speaking in living rooms there’s usually a greater amount of natural light. This being the case why not install a dimmer switch so you can control your lighting better. This way, if you do feel that you need extra lighting during the day, you won’t need to have it full on. Alternatively if you have a desk in the lounge area then you can’t go wrong with a desk light. Firstly they’re great to read by as they kick out a surprising amount of light but more importantly, they’re cheap to run.
